As of 01.01.2023, the citizen’s allowance will be introduced for basic benefits. Everyone who was previously entitled to unemployment benefit II or social benefit is entitled to the citizen’s income.
The standard rates are to be increased as of 01.01.2023.
Beneficiaries should be able to concentrate entirely on finding a job at the beginning of their receipt of a citizen’s income. That’s why grace periods apply to housing and assets during the first year. Assets are only taken into account if they exceed a total of 40,000 euros for the person entitled to benefits and 15,000 euros for each additional person living in this community of need, and accommodation costs are recognized at the actual amount, with the exception of heating costs, which can only be covered at a reasonable level.
Further training and the acquisition of a vocational qualification are at the forefront. Job seekers and the responsible integration specialists jointly agree on an individual cooperation plan for the integration process.
The promotion and support opportunities for young people and adults who are particularly distant from the labor market are to be improved and the sustainability of integration is to be ensured.
If you are already receiving benefits under SGB II, you do not need to submit a separate application for Bürgergeld. The job center remains responsible for you.
The adjusted amounts will be paid to you automatically.
If you participate in measures such as further training, these will continue as usual after the introduction of the citizen’s income.
You can use all our eServices as usual.
The applications, notices and letters from the job centers are expected to be adjusted step by step. You may receive documents after the introduction of the Citizen’s Income that do not yet contain a reference to it. It may also be that the terms “Arbeitslosengeld II” and “Sozialgeld” will continue to be used for the time being. Do not let this unsettle you: you will gradually receive applications, notices and letters that have been converted to the Citizen’s Income.
More information on the citizen’s income can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs
